May News

We have some schedule changes to take note of this month.  It’s a busy May in Creston with Bird Fest, Blossom Fest, the Yaqan Nukiy Pow Wow and Mother’s Day.

Karaoke is cancelled this month because Bird Fest will be using Rotacrest Hall on Karaoke’s regularly scheduled evening.  Appreciation to Anne for her hard work.

Leading up to Bird Fest, Tammy Bradford will be presenting her famous “Bird Wars” talk at Rotacrest Hall.  Always entertaining, you won’t want to miss Tammy on Tuesday, 5 May at 10am for only $2.

Kat’s Stretch Yoga is on pause.  Thank You to our FANTASTIC instructor Kat for getting us limber in time for summer activities.  If there is another Yoga instructor out there that would like to volunteer to teach a one-hour class each week, we’d love to hear from you.

Sunday Table Tennis is cancelled until fall.  Table Tennis will continue on Wednesdays and Fridays for May.  In June we will be dropping to one day a week for the rest of summer.

Sing-A-Long is also taking a break. We’ll look at resuming this in the fall.

While some groups are taking a break, summer brings opportunities for new activities!  Did you know there are Horseshoe pits right next to the parking lot?  How about Cornhole?  That is something we can play inside or out, depending on the weather.  All we need is a volunteer group leader.  Do you have something fun you would like to propose?  Contact us at info@CrestonNewHorizons.ca.

April message to members

Hello & Bonjour New Horizons Member!  Note, there is a lot of important news this month.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING:  It is at 10am on Wednesday, 8 April.  An update on contract talks with the RDCK will be given.  We need more input and involvement from our membership in order to continue offering the great programming we have on our schedule.  Please take some time to attend. Yes, there will be coffee & cookies.

MEMBERSHIP APPRECIATION DAY:  To show our gratitude, we are celebrating YOU with a FREE Dance on Tuesday, 21 April from 2 – 4 in the afternoon.  It’s not just music & fun, there will also be snacks!  Due to capacity issues at the Hall, we are limited to 80 current members.  Please RSVP if you want to attend by emailing us at info@crestonnewhorizons.ca.

Wait!  There’s more Appreciation planned!  At our other regularly scheduled activities on Tuesday the 21st, we will be waiving all of the $2 DROP-IN fees.  This means savings at both Watercolour Painting and Cribbage!  Please remember to sign-up in advance for Watercolours at 9:30am, because space is limited.  Call Sandi at 250-428-2423.  In the evening is our very popular Cribbage activity.  It starts at 6:30 pm and is drop-in.  This Crib session will feature a “Super-Sized Prize Pot.”  Please note, the cost of painting supplies and the prize pot at crib will still be charged.

FREE DEFIBRILLATOR / FIRST AID TRAINING:  Be prepared – save a life!  Creston BC Ambulance professionals will be at Rotacrest Hall on Tuesday, 7 April at 10am.  They will be teaching us some basic CPR and how to use the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) that we have mounted on the wall next to the bulletin board.  Because our members’ health & safety mean so much to us, New Horizons is offering this training for FREE.

TIME CHANGE NOTICE:  You have spoken and we are listening!  As of April, the Monthly Macrame and Sing-a-Long activities are going to start at 10am.  These activities will still be 90 minutes each, but now you can get to your lunch 30 minutes earlier.

EASTER WEEKEND:  We are open on the long weekend!  Table Tennis & Yoga will be held on Good Friday as scheduled.  And, on Easter Sunday, there will be Table Tennis from 2-4pm.

Volunteers

A pair of hands holding a sign that reads "Volunteers Needed"

We need volunteers to help organize our monthly dances.

Working with and under the direction of our coordinator and as part of an existing team, volunteers will help with various tasks such
as setting the dance theme, planning and acquiring decorations, arranging advertising, buying the alcohol, decorating the hall, and helping to run the event, among other activities.

No experience is necessary. This is a great way to meet people and give something to the community.

Contact Us if you are interested.

Cornhole graphic

Corn Hole is the reinvented “Bean Bag Toss” game that is all the rage now.

Corn Hole can be played sitting or standing. Seniors of all ages can play, even with a physical limitation.

Joining could be an opportunity for you to meet new friends and even get a little exercise.

If you are interested in playing Corn Hole let us know.

If there is sufficient interest, we will work at getting this game up and running at Rotocrest Hall for you.

Let us know if this interests you!
